Break the ice with your daughter using these tips for talking about menstruation.

When your daughter is about eight or nine you can explain menstruation to her, even though she probably won’t start until she is about 11 or 12. (Some girls do start as early as nine, though.)
What should you say about menstruating?
Moms can share their own experience about your first period. It’s a great way to break the ice and help smooth any anxiety or embarrassment that she might feel. Assure her that almost every woman goes through the same thing and that, once she gets used to it, her period will not be a big deal.
