The BEST Back to School Party

By Amanda Formaro

Throwing a back to school party is a great way to get kids together to mark the end of summer and beginning of a new routine. Here are plenty of ideas to help get you started creating your own fun!

Create colorful crayon invitations

Cut a piece of construction paper (any color will do) in half, making two 4x6 pieces). Fold those in half lengthwise again, and you should now have two long, narrow cards. On one end, trim the end into a point to look like the shape of a crayon (or use yellow and decorate as a pencil for older children). Write “It’s a Party” on the front and your party information inside. Make a note for children to bring their invitation to the party, as it will double as a mini-craft project!

Decorate your “classroom”

Use the primary colors, red, blue and yellow as your basis, though secondary colors can certainly be used. Choose primary colored balloons and streamers. Make an alphabet banner (imagine the alphabet above the chalkboard in an elementary school classroom) out of green construction paper or poster board and white crayon or paint pens. Use the invitations that children bring with them to make personalized place holders. Have the children flip the invitation over to the blank back side, write their name in black marker and decorate however they choose. This can be as simple as drawing or coloring. Or, if you are adventurous, provide paint and foam stamps in a school theme. Have extra crayon shaped construction paper on hand in case someone forgets theirs.
